Research Report on Hong Kong Migrant Domestic Workers
In light of observed human rights violations in Hong Kong, our research aims to conduct in-depth fieldwork in the region, focusing on the living conditions of migrant domestic workers (MDWs). By undertaking comprehensive interviews with active MDWs in Hong Kong, the research paper aims to present a clearer picture of their day-to-day lives and the challenges they face.
The Impact of Policies on Lives and Work of Domestic Workers: A Comparative Study between Shenzhen and Hong Kong
This study investigates how local government policies shape the work and life of migrant domestic workers (MDWs) within the framework of micro-aggression and micro-resistance. Using qualitative data, 25 interviews with migrant domestic workers were conducted across Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The findings highlight the significant influence of the ‘two-week rule’ and ‘live-in policy’ on the power dynamics between employers and workers, which indirectly shape the aggressive behavior exhibited by employers and subsequent MDWs’ resistance against such aggressions (micro-resistance).
policy advocacy report
This policy advocacy aims to advocate for the Hong Kong Government to further improve the two policies on MDWs in Hong Kong. It will analyze the existing challenges faced by MDWs under the current policy framework and provide recommendations for policy reforms that prioritize the protection of their rights and the enhancement of their working conditions. By implementing these reforms, the Hong Kong Government can create a more equitable and supportive environment for MDWs, ensuring their well-being and contributing to a fair and inclusive society.
